Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga has dismissed fraud charges against 26-year-old Blessed Nyathi of Gwabalanda after the complainant withdrew the case, citing full compensation of the $550 involved in the disputed transaction.

Prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe informed Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court that complainant Meluleki Moyo (31) no longer wished to pursue criminal charges against Nyathi, having recovered his money.

The court heard that on 26 February 2025 at approximately 10:00 AM, Nyathi approached Moyo at a Magwegwe North EcoCash outlet. Nyathi first requested a $140 transfer to his account, claiming he had the cash in his wallet. After this transaction succeeded, he persuaded Moyo to process a further $410 transfer with the same assurance.

When Moyo demanded repayment, Nyathi allegedly claimed his intended recipients had failed to return the funds. Nyathi’s uncle subsequently paid $95 the following day with a promise to settle the balance within 72 hours, but the remaining amount never materialised, leading to Nyathi’s arrest.

“The full compensation of the complainant resulted in the withdrawal of charges,” Ms Kufandikanwe stated as Magistrate Wochiwunga discharged the accused.
