Former technician sues ZETDC

A former Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company technician who fell from a ladder and suffered permanent disability while on duty is suing the power utility for $120 000.

Mr Jealous Nyaguse had a permanent disability of 12,5 percent on his left forearm as a result of the accident.

In summons filed on his behalf by Mr Caleb Mucheche of Matsikidze and Mucheche law firm last Friday, Mr Nyaguse is claiming $100 000 as compensation for loss of earning capacity, future earning and disablement.

He also wants $20 000 for pain and suffering. In the summons filed last Friday at the High Court, ZETDC was cited as the only defendant.

Mr Nyaguse claims that in November 2012, he was doing his job in Harare when he fell from a ladder and sustained serious injuries. He sustained fractures on the left wrist, left ribs and chest.

An examination by a doctor revealed that Mr Nyaguse’s arm had 12,5 percent permanent disability.

It is Mr Nyaguse’s argument that the accident occurred while he was on duty and that ZESA must take responsibility.

He blames ZESA for using a precarious ladder that led to his disablement without checking on its safety. Mr Nyaguse contends that the power utility exposed him to harm and failed to take a proper look out for workplace hazards.
