A 50-YEAR-OLD man from Fort Rixon in Insiza District has appeared in court, charged with attempted murder after he allegedly struck a 75-year-old fellow villager several times on the head and face with a knobkerrie, over an alleged love affair with his wife.

Douglas Ndlovu of Ensango Village 4 appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate, Mr Mark Dzira, facing a charge of attempted murder.

He was not asked to plead after he indicated to the court that he intended to seek legal representation.

Ndlovu was remanded in custody to 29 April as the complainant is still admitted to hospital.

The accused person appeared in court with his clothes and shoes still stained with the blood of the complainant.

The complainant in the matter is Shadreck Tshuma (75) of the same village.

Prosecuting, Ms Hazel Ncube told the court that on 13 April at about 6PM, the complainant was in the company of his son, walking to their homestead, when they met the accused person.

“The accused person began to accuse the complainant of having an extramarital affair with his wife. Before the complainant could reply, the accused struck the complainant several times on the head and face using a knobkerrie and he became unconscious,” said Ms Ncube.

The court heard that Ndlovu also struck the complainant’s son once on the head, but he did not sustain any injuries.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest, while the complainant was referred to hospital for medical attention.
