FOUR armed suspects have been arrested in Odzi for allegedly robbing a man of his smartphone and US$10 at a bus stop near Odzi Business Centre.

The suspects – Blessing Chikosi (24), Gerald Masarakufa (23), Lenox Simango (19), and Takudzwa Muchera (18) – were arrested for stealing a Samsung A03 smartphone and $10 from Morebright Saungweme.

The incident occurred on March 30, 2025 at around 5am.

Saungweme was waiting for a lift to Mutare at a bus stop near Odzi Post Office, when four suspects, armed with machetes, electric shocker, and okapi knife confronted him.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the robbery.

“Chikosi threatened the complainant with an electric shocker, ordering him to surrender his Samsung A03 cellphone, which had $10 attached to it. Masarakufa flashed a machete, warning Saungweme that he would be killed if he does not hand over the cell phone. Simango and Muchera stood behind the complainant, preventing him from fleeing,” he said.

Saungweme handed over the cellphone to Chikosi, and the four suspects quickly fled the scene.

The complainant then reported the incident at Odzi Police Station and an investigation was promptly launched, with witnesses at the bus stop reporting that the four suspects had fled along the Odzi-Mount Zuma Road.

The police pursued the suspects and apprehended them about two kilometres away from the crime scene, along the same road.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public to refrain from committing violent crimes and robberies.
