Four artisanal miners killed in mine collapse

FOUR artisanal miners died when a disused mineshaft they were prospecting for gold in collapsed at Chengxi Gold Mine in Shurugwi.

Police in a statement posted on X confirmed the accident, which occurred last Thursday.

“The victims, who were prospecting for gold in a disused mineshaft, got trapped after the mineshaft collapsed,” reads the police statement.

The bodies of the victims were retrieved on Tuesday and taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.
