A Bulawayo resident stumbled upon four freshly slaughtered cattle carcasses in a bushy area between Magwegwe West and Pumula North suburbs on Sunday morning, while two other beasts were found alive but severely injured after being brutally axed on their hind legs.
When a news crew visited the scene in the company of police officers, they found three severed cattle heads, animal entrails and the remains of slaughtered beasts scattered across the area.
One of the cattle had been skinned approximately 40 metres from where the other carcasses were discovered.
Investigators also recovered a bag filled with intestines, suggesting the animals had been slaughtered at the site before some of the meat was removed.
Police have launched investigations into the suspected stock theft and illegal slaughtering incident.
