FOUR foreign nationals, believed to be victims of human trafficking, died on Tuesday in a container along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said they have engaged Interpol for further investigations to determine the victims’ identification and to nab those responsible.
“Investigations conducted by the ZRP so far have established that four men, who were found dead in a bushy area near the 174km peg along Harare-Nyamapanda Road, Suswe Pass in Mudzi, are suspected foreigners,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“They were being trafficked to another country.
“The victims are suspected to have suffocated in the container they were travelling in and the bodies were dumped in the area,” he said.
In June, this year more than 50 people perished in a truck, packed with dozens of migrants, during a smuggling attempt in Texas, United States of America.
Homero Zamorano Jr , 45, was the driver of the truck and was arrested while trying to pose as a survivor of the tragedy, which left 53 migrants dead.
It’s believed to be the greatest loss of life ever from a single human-trafficking incident in the United States, according to CBS.
Meanwhile, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Harare on Monday arrested Honest Shumba, 33, Allen Shumba, 37, and a foreign national Stanley Eze, 45, at a lodge along David Morgan Crescent in Avondale, for dealing in cocaine.
The suspects were found in possession of 105g of cocaine with a street value of $588 000.
Police hailed the public for supplying useful information and warned people against human trafficking and smuggling of dangerous drugs from other countries.
