POLICE in Midlands Province have arrested two suspects who were part of a four member gang that allegedly assaulted a man with an axe and electrocuted him with a taser before reportedly robbing him of US$150.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the two suspects who are on the run.
“We confirm that we have arrested Tafadzwa Chimbidi and Peace Chingozho for an armed robbery case that occurred in Shurugwi. The pair is helping police with investigations. We are appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the other two suspects who are on the run. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station,” he said.
It is alleged that while the 31-year-old male victim from Shurugwi in Midlands Province was walking along a footpath to his home Chingozho and Chimbindi and their accomplices who are still at large pounced on him.
They allegedly attacked him with the back of an axe and electrocuted him with a taser while demanding money. They searched his pockets and reportedly took US$150 after that they force-marched him to a nearby mine where they ordered him to extract gold ore and freed him after three hours. After that he reported the incident to the police.
