A 38-YEAR-OLD man from Msudu village in Insiza, Matabeleland South Province was slapped with a 20-year jail sentence for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
He appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of rape.
He pleaded not guilty to the crime but was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to 20 years with three years suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offense within five years.
The court heard that on 20 February 2024 at around 7pm the accused arrived at his homestead where he found the victim and her two younger siblings alone.
It was heard that the accused instructed the younger siblings to go to their neighbour’s house and after they had left, he approached the victim and told her he wanted to sleep with her.
The accused then dragged the minor girl to his bedroom and took out an okapi knife which he used to threaten her with it if she did not comply with his orders.
Furthermore, the accused forcibly stripped naked the victim before he proceeded to rape her.
