FOUR men have been arrested for carjacking in Beitbridge.
Takudzwa Nongerai, 24, Isaac Nherera, 26, Steven Mutuvira, 24, and Peace Karanda, 26, have been masquerading as genuine passengers before pouncing on unsuspecting victims.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson, Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said the quartet had been targeting taxi operators.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a syndicate of four members behind a series of carjacking targeted at taxi operators in Beitbridge.
“During the period extending from 8 to 22 March 2025, the four would hire the complainants, taxi operators, to various destinations and along the way, they would attack the unsuspecting victims before robbing them of their motor vehicles and other valuables before making off with the vehicle.
“The tide turned for the accused person as Detectives from CID Beitbridge uncovered evidence linking them to the robbery cases. “They were subsequently arrested on March 24, 2025 at Mbedzi Shopping Centre in Beitbridge.
“Further investigations led to the recovery of two Honda Fit vehicles on registration (AFH 4329) and (AFE 0872).
“The quartet appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrate Court where they were remanded in custody to April 5, 2025 for sentencing,” she said.
Det-Insp Muteweri said the Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for supplying credible information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
She also encouraged members of the public to share any information on crime and criminal matters through their National Complaints Desk.
