Police on domestic violence fight

FAMILIES have been urged to seek counselling for peace and development.

Addressing guests at the ZRP Women Network commemoration of International Women’s Day in Chitungwiza, officer under Chitungwiza Victim Friendly Unit, Constable Enia Chibhamu urged spouses to consider settling their differences amicably.

“Do not think of Police when you have a criminal case to report,” said Cst Chibhamu.

“Police have many departments where your differences can be handled amicably without taking each other to holding cells or court.

“We are urging couples, families to visit any Police Station for counselling so as to live happily.

“Some family and marital issues affect your development.

“Semapurisa hatisipakungosunga vapari vemhosva asi kupachenjedzo mukudzivirirwa kwekuparwa kwedzimhosva.

“Victim Friendly Unit is there to help you solve your issues amicably and take some issues to Civil Courts for Protection or Peace Order if necessary.

“We are encouraging couples to consider visiting VFU for guidance so that their differences won’t affect their children emotionally or psychologically.

“Let us stop domestic violence for the better of our children and personal and national development.

“Stop the pulling down of each other syndrome and live peaceful,” said Cst Chibhamu.

She lamented the rising of rape cases involving minor children calling for an end.

Cst Chibhamu urged couples to consider protecting and monitoring their children.

“Rape cases involving minor children have been rising here in Chitungwiza.

“Let us monitor the girl and boy child, they are both being abused.

“Issues to do with domestic violence exposes our children to sexual abuse by neighbours, relatives as well as strangers.

“It is disheartening to learn that there are fathers raping their daughters.

“Hey, where is our societal norms, dignity, what role is the church and elders in our society.

“Let us consider seeking advice from our elders or rush to police for help anytime, we are there to protect the nation,” said Cst Chibhamu.

Police women network officers marched from Zengeza to St Mary’s holding banners written; Say NO to drug and substance abuse, domestic violence.

A number of Chitungwiza residents were addressed at Chigovanyika Shopping Centre and police band provided entertainment.
