Fragile Zimbabwe lose

Club here yesterday.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first and restricted the Asians to 269/8 from their allotted 50 overs with Nasir Hosain nursing the innings with a half century.

In reply Zimbabwe crashed to 148 all out in 32.1 overs as Hamilton Masakadza top scored with 38 (off 53 deliveries with three fours and a six) while his brother Shingi chipped in with a-run-a-ball 33 (three fours and two sixes).

Captain Brendan Taylor scored 33 (off 37 deliveries).
The Zimbabwe batting innings never found any momentum and pre-match predictions that they would struggle at Queens came from true.

Shingi had starred with the ball with figures of 4-51 in 10 overs but Rahman then overshadowed his performance with his incredible 5-3 in nine overs.

If ODI cricket gets any better figures then that will require a monumental effort.
Disaster was written all over as Zimbabwe lost two quick wickets and were 13 for two just into the fourth over after Shafuil Islam removed the clueless Regis Chakabva (1), who has run out of chances now, and debutante Raza Butt (3).

Chakabva perished to an inside edge while Butt was given a baptism of fire, batting at number three, at this level of the game.

You can’t fault him much, playing in his first match, and he was virtually an opener given that Chakabva never lasted.

But the third wicket partnership of Taylor and Hamilton brought back Zimbabwe into the game, the hosts reaching their 50 at the end of the 10th over following a boundary by Hamilton. Hamilton hit a huge six of Shakib Al Hasan and as long as the pair was together, there was hope for Zimbabwe.

But Taylor lost his wicket at a crucial time when the returning Abdur Razzak uprooted his off stump.
Williams was run out on 10 after Hamilton forced a really unnecessary single after pushing to cover.
The hosts lost four wickets without adding a run to the score board as Williams, Hamilton, Elton Chigumbura and Prosper Utseya fell with Zimbabwe still on 93 runs with two of the wickets falling in the same over off Ziaur Rahman.

Nasir Hossains’ 68 gave the visitors a comfortable total.
“Bangladesh bowled into the right areas but we gave away eight of our 10 wickets easily, they were soft, it was a flat wicket too,” said Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor.

“They have won the first game and this has definitely given them confidence going into the second game.

“But we have had a solid chat with coach and we hope that we will be a better side.
“But first we need to work out in the nets tomorrow.”
