The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is set to host the Fragrancies of Truth Art Exhibition this week, bringing together a diverse group of creatives from across artistic disciplines for a showcase centred on history, identity and interpretation.
Among the featured artists are Abigail Nyasha Hunda, Cherish Waldman, Keith Ryan Chikoza, Nothemba Hilda Dube, Mthokozisi Zwelithini Ndlovu, Ntabiso Gift Dube, Picasso Leo, Patricia Sbanesihle Banda, Ryan Ross Gondo, Talent Kapadza, Yolanda Ngwenya and Zibusiso Magonya, who will be presenting selected works during the exhibition.
Speaking on the concept behind the exhibition, curator Yolanda Ngwenya said the theme explores historical narratives and how they continue to shape modern society.
“The theme Fragrancies of Truth tackles historical narratives that have impacted us and contributed to influencing our present reality. It also raises thought-provoking questions, such as whether these narratives are always true, and what the difference is between the history we know and the actual truth.
“Sometimes truth can be subjective, and history is not always something from a long time ago, even two minutes ago can become history,” she said.
Ngwenya added that visitors can expect personal interpretations of the theme through a wide range of artistic expressions, including painting, fashion and textiles, drawing, handicraft and digital design.
The exhibition is expected to offer an immersive and intimate artistic experience, bringing together different creative elements to spark conversation, reflection and engagement among art lovers, critics and curious minds alike.
