Our main aim is to assist the National Gallery of Zimbabwe through adding to the permanent collection, funding maintenance activities and creating an awareness of the gallery’s activities.
These activities are financed through fund-raising activities whose proceeds go towards the above mentioned activities. This time around we have decided to hold a Food Fair on June 1.
The funds raised from the Food Fair will be used to help the Gallery with the 55th International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia – by assisting the five selected Zimbabwean artists Virginia Chihota, Vote Thebe, Michele Mathison, Portia Zvavahera and Rashid Jogee. Zimbabwe made its first ever appearance with an inaugural Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale.
This, of course, is very exciting and it will be the second time that Zimbabwe has participated. We hope that you all saw the “Venice Biennale After Event” earlier on in the year here at the Gallery? It gave Zimbabweans a chance to see what the rest of the world had seen at the Venice Biennale in 2011.
The theme of the Food Fair is “Celebrating the Art of Food (and Drink)”. The fair itself will be held in the Gallery Gardens between Julius Nyerere Way and Park Lane.
There will be food and drink from all around the world, live music and entertainment, local crafts and cooking demonstrations. The fair will run from 10am to 7pm. The cost of tickets will be US$5 adults and US$2 children/OAPs.
We hope to attract a wide variety of exhibitors in the food and beverage industry, as well as crafters. Those wishing to exhibit will pay a fee to hire out a stall for the day.
The benefits of taking part in the Friends of the Gallery food fair include:
- Increased product and brand visibility;
- The opportunity to sell goods and services;
- The opportunity to network with others in the business.
We do hope that you will join us on the day and in doing so support the Zimbabwean visual arts. If you would like to reserve a stand please contact: Chemwi Mutiwanyuka on [email protected] or Sharon Waterworth on [email protected]
