FROM ALMOST QUITTING FOOTBALL TO BECOMING A CHAMP

SIMBA Bhora defender Webster Tafa could have quit football.

He was part of a Mushowani side that not only got relegated in their maiden Premiership season but went on to collapse in 2019.

Some of his teammates decided to pursue other interests.

Others like Sylon Chikwengwere, Clemence Zimondi, Clive Dzingai, Eriya Mafirenyika, Jeffrey Takunda and Evans Katema found new homes elsewhere.

But offers were hard to come for Tafa until CAPS United came.

“I was about to leave the game completely but I knew football is all that I know and able to do,” said Tafa.

“The collapse of Mushowani affected me a lot and some of my colleagues decided to leave the stage.

“I was about to follow suit but right when I was about to make a decision, CAPS United came with a two-year deal.”

Tafa never thrived at CAPS United.

Then the Bindura SOS Children’s Home product decided to retrace his footsteps back to Mashonaland Central where he joined then Division One side Simba Bhora in 2022.

And, the move has rewarded him just two years down the line with the player inspiring Simba Bhora to the Premier Soccer League title.

Tafa is the only player who has featured in every minute in Simba Bhora’s 33 games.

He has featured in all the club’s games in the last three seasons.

“I loved Mushowani because it is a team that I rose with from the first division to the Premiership. I would have wanted to see them survive and probably achieve a lot in the league because they had the potential.

“It still pains me that they have failed to rise from the ashes.

“Then Simba Bhora came and the vision was the same. I was part of them in Division One and here we are. The second coming has been magnificent and I would like to thank club president Simba Ndoro and, of course, my coach Tonderai Ndiraya who has always motivated me.”
