THERE was a time, at the beginning of the formative years of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, when Prophet Walter Magaya used to drive around town in a Mazda Demio.
That car’s selling price, at the time, was probably US$4,000.
But, times have changed for Magaya and his PHD Ministries.
They built a hotel and a residential complex in Waterfalls, they built a stadium, which was good enough to host the COSAFA Under-17 Championship matches, which ended at the weekend.
And, yesterday he was driven away in a luxurious 2025 Mercedes Benz Maybach GLS 600 worth US$450,000, the gift he received from businessman Wicknell Chivhayo.
In addition, Magaya also received a US$100,000 cash donation.
Magaya’s wife will also receive a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR and US$50,000 cash.
The excitement was palpable at the Exquisite Car Sales where scores of PHD followers thronged to watch and celebrate as Magaya received his gift.
“Zodzo zodzo Prophet zodzo regai tiinomborewo, zvasiyana tagamuchira,” some of his followers chanted.
Munyaradzi Kamuchira, one of his followers, was given the honour to be the first to drive the Maybach as Magaya’s chauffer as the delegation left to the prophet’s hotel.
“It is grace only, a divine opportunity to be close to the man of God, my father, my mentor,” Munya said.
His followers were clearly in a very good mood.
They waved placards which carried various statements including “May God continue to bless Sir Wicknell Chivhayo,” and “We never imagined such generosity.”
Chivhayo said he handed the gifts after being touched by Magaya’s contributions in various fields.
“This is a man who has been a consistent voice both within the church and the society using his God-given gift to empower the youth and to promote sport as a tool for upliftment.
“Through Yadah Stars Football Club and investment in world class stadium infrastructure.
“He has demonstrated a clear commitment to the development of local talent and the growth of Zimbabwean sport.
“In recognition of your exceptional contribution to the body of Christ and for redefining Christian worship through prophetic healing and deliverance, I extend this as my personal tribute to you, man of God.”
