FUEL prices in Bulawayo have marginally fallen by up to $0.12 for diesel from previous price range of between $1.02 to $1.12 while petrol recorded a $0.07 decrease to $1.25 from average $1.32.
A snap survey by Business Chronicle in the central business district yesterday revealed that the lowest price for diesel was $1 with petrol pegged at $1.25. The average price of petrol globally is $0.96/ litre. While countries have access to the same petroleum prices at international market rate some like Zimbabwe impose different taxes, which affects local pricing.
Motorists, however, feel the decrease is insignificant.
“It really makes no difference to me whether petrol is going for $1.28 or $1.30. At most I buy 30 litres of petrol so I guess those who can feel the difference are the people who buy a 100 litres or more of fuel,” said Mayford Mukamba.
Last week Energy and Power Development Deputy Minister Tsitsi Muzenda indicated that government was working on the removing wholesalers’ storage of fuel and handling costs of $0,015/litre as the majority of companies were utilising the storage facilities operated by the National Oil Infrastructure Company.
