Fuel queues persist in Victoria Falls

While fuel deliveries seem to be increasing each day at the service stations, Chronicle has since established that some garages were conniving with illegal fuel dealers who are buying in bulk for speculative purposes.
Motorists said they were going to spend time in queues rather than buy the commodity on the black market.

Some said buying from unscrupulous dealers would promote the rot at the service stations where allegations of underhand dealings have been made.

“You find that when the service stations are said to be dry, these illegal fuel dealers always have supplies to sell but at an extra cost on the part of the motorist. However, the only way to fix them is to boycott them and wait for supplies at the service stations,” said Mr John Chinembiri from Harare.

One of the illegal fuel dealers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that he feared running at a loss since he bought large quantities of fuel hoping to sell it at a higher price during the festive season.

“I have many litres of petrol and diesel at my house and if the supplies continue to come, I am bound to run at a loss. I failed to sell large quantities in the past days when Victoria Falls was very busy and now the tourists are leaving and so whom am I going to sell it to?” he asked.

A survey by Chronicle yesterday indicated that Shell, Avis, Marange and CMED service stations had fuel but had long queues mostly from tourists embarking on their return journeys.
