A MHERDIKHEM Investments director, who had been on the run since 2021, was arrested on Monday following a tip-off.

Edgar Mashindi, 56, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, facing charges of fraud and theft and will remain in custody until his bail application on Monday next week.

The complainant is Elias Chadavaenzi, the managing director of Relmac Technologies (Pvt) Limited.

The State said on March 19, 2021, Chadavaenzi was referred to Mashindi by a colleague for Covid-19 test kits.

Chadavaenzi contacted Mashindi two days later and they agreed that Mashindi would make a cash payment after receiving the Covid-19 test kits.

Mashindi allegedly lied that he had US$26 000 to purchase 4000 Covid-19 test kits.

On the same date, Mashindi invited Chadavaenzi to the Swift Depot in Central Avenue, Harare, where he delivered the 4 000 Covid-19 test kits.

Mashindi allegedly signed a delivery note and told Chadavaenzi that he was going to collect cash from his motor vehicle in the parking area, but disappeared with the test kits.

Chadavaenzi made a report to the police.

Mashindi was arrested in the Harare CBD on Monday after a tip off.
