Fundraising bash for youth games

THE Sport and Recreation Commission will host a fundraising bash for the National Youth Games in the Harare Gardens this Saturday. The 13th edition of the National Youth Games are scheduled for Mutare from August 15-23. A cast of high-profile entertainers has been availed, including Jah Prayzah, Sniper Storm, Winky D, Dadza D, Soul Jah Love and Killer T among others.

SRC Director Corporate Service Patience Kabanda said the idea behind this bash was to support the Youth Games that have been successfully hosted since 2003.

“This initiative is meant to ensure that we support the successful hosting of the 13th edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games set for Mutare.

“We would like to appeal to the general public to come and support this noble cause. We are hopeful that through this initiative we will continue to contribute to the positive development of sport and we can only do so if we are supported by the general public.”

The National Youth Games were incepted in 2003 as a national strategy meant to identify talent and develop the young people throughout the country. There are 8 sport codes in the Games athletics, basketball, boxing, football, handball, tennis and volleyball

”This is line with the spirit of ZimASSET where emphasis is on working in clusters and also we are using the youth in the arts to support their fellow youths in the sporting sector,” she said.

The games have produced athletes such as Charles Manyuchi from boxing, Ngonidzashe Makusha, Gabriel Mvumvure all athletics, Vitalis Chikoko and Alex Maseko all from basketball.
