PRIVATE funeral parlour, Charele Funeral Services has adopted all old people’s homes in Manicaland and is offering free burials for all those who would have died. The organisation has so far assisted in burying three elderly people, two of them, Mr Zhuwao Zhuwakinyu and Mr Luizhi Toure from Zororai Old People’s Home in Sakubva high-density suburb.
Addressing journalists recently, the company’s marketing executive, Mr Trevor Hondo, said they decided to assist the less-privileged members of the society through the free burials.
He said they signed a Memorandum of Understanding with all the 14 homes in Manicaland.
“We are happy with the decision we made and we are proud to announce that we have so far buried three inmates — two of them from Zororai Old People’s Home. We do all the necessary procedures such as dressing the deceased’s body, providing the casket, lowering devices and tents and professional service.
“We are a team of God-fearing people that is why we came up with a unique service that is not provided by other players in the industry,” said Mr Hondo.
“We hope to play a significant role in helping the disadvantaged homes which are financially struggling,” he added.
Zororai Old People’s Home Sister-In-Charge, Sister Blandina Mariko, said the funeral parlour was playing a critical role in addressing an avalanche of problems bedevilling the organisation.
“We are so grateful. We used to be so desperate whenever one inmate dies. Charele came to our rescue and we are forever grateful. The inmates are now accorded a decent burial. We signed a MOU last year with Charele and they have been there for us always,” she said.
She also paid tribute to Mutare Rotary Club for assisting them in the time of need.
Zororai Old People’s Home has been plagued by challenges that include lack of adequate food and blankets for inmates.
