Gospel musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave has ventured into business and opened a boutique in Harare’s Zimnat Mall. Zvakavapano-Mashavave, who is a fashion designer, is selling her designs in the shop. “The shop is called House of Nasya. Nasya is a Hebrew name for miracles. I believe there are miracles in my hands because of my artistic talents. I have been a designer all my life, designing stage outfits for myself and my girls (from her band).

I have now decided to extend it to other people,” she said.

The songstress who is a stern supporter of everything traditional said the shop has ethnic wear for women. She sells evening gowns, casual wear and clothes for events.

“You will also find everyday clothes like jump suits and due to popular demand we now have men’s African shirts. As I grow I will also employ tailors and many others in order to meet demand,” she said.

The “Makomborero” hit maker, who is also a qualified marketer, said her new venture was allowing her to put her business skills to practice.

“Besides the short courses that I undertook in fashion design, I have a diploma in Marketing. There is more to me even though I had not been fully harnessing my potential. I was born to create,” she said.

Fungisai is enjoying massive response from fans and clients.

She however said those interested in capturing Kodak moments and engage in small talk when they catch her in the shop will be also be welcome.

Fungisai follows in the footsteps of other musicians like Cindy Munyavi, Plaxedese Wenyika-Joka and Mudiwa Mtandwa, who have opened clothing stores to complement their careers.
