adminJOHANNESBURG. – Marumo Gallants detained duo of team manager Rufus Matsena and therapist Dina Dhlomo landed in South Africa yesterday.
The Gallants duo, who were detained in Libya, will now be reunited with their families.
They were detained in Benghazi, Libya, on March 19 after a disagreement over payment by the South African club at a hotel they were staying.
Gallants are the home of Zimbabwe international goalkeeper, Washington Arubi.
Their detention followed a CAF Confederation Cup match against Al Akhdar.
“We are very much delighted that we are back home,” team manager Matsena told the media on their arrival at OR Tambo International airport.
“You know, there’s no prize that you can place in terms of the feelings that we have right now. We are very excited.
“And if there’s anything that needs to be said, tomorrow there will be a press and all will be revealed.”
The return of Matsena and Dhlomo comes after a successful meeting held last week Thursday.
The meeting involved Gallants, Dr Elzargha, SAFA, the Libyan embassy in South Africa, the now released detained duo.
As well as South Africa’s ambassador to Tunisia, where an agreement was reached for the pair to return home.
In a statement released by the club on Saturday, Gallant’s chairman Abram Sello stated that they were immensely relieved that their staff will be returning home safely.
Sello went on to express his gratitude to all the parties who were involved in bringing Matsena and Dhlomo home.
“We would like to thank all parties that assisted in us getting to this point,” said Sello.
The club will host an official press briefing in due course. The venue and time is yet to be confirmed.
