GOLDEN Eagles became the second club in the country to embrace the use of sports technology after using GPS vests in their 2-1 victory over ZRP Harare FC.
Bulawayo Chiefs were the first to take this initiative last season.
Zimbabwe’s top leagues are the PSL, as well as the four second-tier regional leagues – Northern Region, Southern Region, Central Region and Eastern Region.
But, Gondoharishaye appear to be just a step ahead in demonstrating how it’s done in their league.
These vests were supplied by Allan Shamuyaria, a Zimbabwean who is based in the United States, through his company, Sports Gurus.
Shamuriyia, said they engaged many PSL and Division One clubs but it was Eagles who showed keen interest.
And, he said the Eagles were probably one of the first Southern African club to have a feel of their unique product, the player data Edge Pods.
“We approached a lot of clubs in the PSL and Division One as well as those in other fields to partner with us.
“But, it’s the Eagles who gave us a convincing response and I believe we met at the right time.
“We have a lot of products that we know will be a good fit for the sports industry in Zimbabwe and we are working at introducing these products to clubs, schools and even individuals who are interested in tracking and improving their performances,” said Shamuyaria.
He urged Zimbabweans, who are in the Diaspora, to invest in local football.
“I believe more can be done to improve the development of our football and other sport disciplines, especially at grassroots level.
“If we can work together, and implement these modern trends at grassroots, I believe we can never go wrong because that’s what other countries are doing.
“Sport is a billion dollar industry and we have to position ourselves to get our share.”
He added.
“I have always been involved in sport and I’m very passionate about its development, particularly in Zimbabwe.
“I realised that I had an opportunity in Zimbabwe by providing cost-effective yet reliable and credible sports technology solutions.”
Shamuyaria attained a Sports Management badge with FIFA and he is currently studying a FIFA Agent programme.
