Game meat lands man in trouble

A man from Bulawayo will regret the day he bought game meat after police arrested him in connection with poaching at Roseburn Farm.

Mandla Ndlovu (31) appeared at the Western Commonage Courts facing charges of hunting for game meat in a safari area.

a�?I was on my way to buy fish when I met a man known as Mengezi and his friend and they were in possession of game meat. I bought half of the duiker meat and asked them to keep my meat as I would collect it later.a�?

Ndlovu is said to have proceeded to the dam to buy his fish but before he could make his purchase he received a phone call directing him to make his way back to his homestead.

a�?I received a phone call directing me to go back to my homestead, as soon as I got there game park officers dashed into my home ordering me to sit down as I was being accused of poaching and they went on to search my yard and found nothing.a�?

One of the security guards who apprehended Ndlovu told the court that they followed footprints which led them straight to Ndlovua��s homestead.

a�?We found blood at the scene and followed them to Ndlovua��s homestead but we did not find him, my boss then came with police officers who escorted us to his homestead and we recovered the game meat hanging from a tree leading to the implication of the second accused Dumisani Dube and his accomplice Mengezi Ndlovu who are still at large,a�? said the guard.

A carcass of an impala, spring hare and half of the duiker were recovered at Dubea��s homestead. The value of the stolen property is estimated at $2 000 and only $1 500 was recovered.

The trial continues on 20 April before magistrate Lungile Ncube. . .
