Game poachers nabbed

THREE Rusape men were arrested for trespassing into a farm and killing a kudu.

Samuel Nyamukunda (18), David Mwanuhalaya (23) and David Siduna (46) – who are represented by Mr Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates Legal Practitioners – are denying ever contravening Section 38 (1)(a) of the Parks and Wildlife Act which makes it illegal to hunt and kill any animal in a safari area.

Prosecuting, Mr Thomas Tumbare told the court that the trio and one Tichaona Nyamukunda, who is still at large, killed a kudu at Mona Agriculture Tourism Farm in Headlands.

“On September 28 at around 7pm, the three accused persons and Nyamukunda, armed with a shotgun rifle, connived and proceeded to Mona Farm. On arrival, the accused persons killed a female kudu by shooting it with the rifle.

“On September 29, police acting on a tip-off supplied by members of the public to the effect that the accused persons were seen loitering around the scene made a follow-up to their houses. Police recovered a liver of a kudu being cooked at Samuel Nyamukunda’s house.

“Samuel Nyamukunda then led then led the police to Siduna’s house where they recovered 69,78kg of kudu meat plus the hide, head and legs. The value of the killed kudu is $2 500,” he said.

Provincial magistrate Mr Shingi Mutiro adjourned the matter to yesterday (Thursday) for trial continuation.
