FORMER champions Chicken Inn moved into fourth place on the log standings after condemning Harare City to their sixth defeat of the season at the National Sports yesterday. A brilliantly worked out goal finished off by former Hwange star Innocent Mucheneka in the 28th minute was enough for Rahman Gumbo’s Gamecocks who now have 21 points from 11 games.
The evergreen Clement Matawu raced down the right channel, getting the better of Prichard Mpelele in the process before chipping the ball into the box. Mucheneka connected first time and Harare City keeper Maxwell Nyamupangedengu was beaten all systems out.
It looks like new Harare City coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube has much to do as his charges toiled and toiled with no joy. The “Sunshine Boys” had eight attempts at goal including three shots on target but they could not beat Chicken Inn’s Elvis Chipezeze.
Harare City were hoping to build on last Sunday’s 2-0 win at Bantu Rovers but they faced a well drilled Chicken Inn who notched up their sixth away win of the campaign. Ncube was hired last month to replace an out of sorts Mike Madzivanyika but the former How Mine gaffer has not had a perfect start.
He lost 0-1 to Dynamos in his first match in charge, recovered with a 2-0 victory over Bantu Rovers but yesterday’s loss saw Harare City remaining in the red zone.
They are fourth from bottom with 10 points and just two wins in 11 games.
