AFTER watching his charges grind positive results against ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium in the past seasons, Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas has implored his players to adopt a positive attitude against their opponents tomorrow.
The two teams have met 18 times in league action and Gamecocks have proved to be a dominant force at their beloved Luveve Stadium only to struggle at Nyamhunga Stadium.
The 18 outings between the two sides have seen Antipas’ men post seven wins (six at home and one away) against the power generators.
ZPC Kariba have beaten Chicken Inn six times in Kariba and twice in Bulawayo.
Five games between the two outfits have ended in stalemates that is one at Luveve Stadium and four at Nyamhunga Stadium.
“It’s true, we have always struggled to get maximum points at Nyamhunga. ZPC Kariba are a difficult side to play against at their home turf. At times, I think the heat in Kariba works in their favour. However, we have been working hard at training. We are looking forward to a change of fortunes. All our games with them have been difficult but on Saturday we really need to grind a positive result,” said Antipas.
The usually reserved but talented Gamecocks club captain Xolani “Lolo” Ndlovu also emphasised on the need for them to take the game to their opponents.
“It’s not going to be an easy game but we will fight. There is need for us to break that Nyamhunga jinx. It all needs team effort and positivity,” said the roving left back.
In their Week Three fixture, Gamecocks played a one all draw against former League champions FC Platinum at Luveve Stadium while ZPC Kariba were edged 1-0 by Manica Diamonds.
Chicken Inn have posted three consecutive draws. Their first two stalemates were identical 0-0 scorelines against Bikita Minerals and Yadah Stars.
Going into tomorrow’s match Antipas’ men are on position 12 with three points one ahead of 16th placed ZPC Kariba.
