Gamecocks reshuffle raises eyebrows

CHICKEN INN appear to have hit the reset button on their faltering Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign, starting with a major reshuffle in their technical department.

First assistant coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi has been re-assigned to take charge of the club’s ZIFA Bulawayo Province Division Two side, in what insiders suggest may be the start of broader changes.

Kwashi, who joined the Gamecocks last year from CAPS United following the departure of Prince Matore, was conspicuously absent from the bench during Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to GreenFuel.

Zimpapers Sports Hub understands that the gaffer has been directed to lead the developmental side, which was previously overseen by Nkosana “Sancho” Gumbo and Ben Nyahunzvi. The duo had also been guiding the club’s Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 teams.

A visibly dejected Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas was tight-lipped when asked why Kwashi was not part of the technical bench against GreenFuel.

“I think you will have to speak to the club’s executive with regard to that,” said Antipas.

Club secretary general Tavengwa Hara would neither confirm nor deny the shake-up when contacted for comment.

“The club will soon come out with a statement with regard to any structural adjustments happening at the team from the junior to senior teams,” he said.

While officially dubbed a “reassignment,” the move raises questions about whether the club is beginning to lose patience with the current set-up.

Antipas himself is under growing pressure after a string of lacklustre performances.

Chicken Inn have managed just two wins in their opening 12 matches, collecting 12 points from two wins, six draws and four defeats. Alarmingly, they have yet to register a single win at home this sea-son.

“It’s disappointing. We have been struggling at home,” Antipas admitted. Their only victories so far came on the road against Dynamos and Kwekwe United. Saturday’s 1-0 loss to GreenFuel continued a worrying trend of toothless performances at Luveve Stadium.
