ZIMBABWE and Palestine are set to open a new chapter in their bilateral relations, with a focus on economic cooperation and business development.
This came out after the Ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri, paid a courtesy call on Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu recently, where they held discussions on how the two countries can enhance trade.
Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Almassri said the two nations have a historical bond that continues to blossom.
“We had very fruitful and great discussions about our bilateral relations that actually brought Palestine and Zimbabwe together as sister countries,” he said.
Ambassador Almassri said the devastation of Palestinian infrastructure in Gaza has forced many entrepreneurs to seek opportunities abroad.
Zimbabwe, he said, presents a promising and secure environment for Palestinian businesspeople displaced by conflict.
“Since the Israeli genocide, many of the Palestinian men left the Gaza Strip because their factories were destroyed under the Israeli apartheid military destructive tools,” Ambassador Almassri said.
“We try actually to open the ground for them here in Zimbabwe, and I’m sure that they will have a very friendly and safe environment for business.”
Since October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 62 000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded over 120 000 others, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
Ambassador Almassri commended the Government of Zimbabwe, particularly President Mnangagwa, for the consistent support extended to the Palestinian people.
