CAPS United’s last trip to the City of Kings in the 2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer
League season hung in the balance until the last minute as players threatened
to boycott the game over outstanding bonuses and salaries.
But today, they arrive at the same venue in buoyant mood to face the Gamecocks.
And their confidence has been boosted by the fact that they are unbeaten in five
games.
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe is confident that his charges will get maximum
points but is wary of the threat that Chicken Inn pose.
“Whether you haven’t lost a match or you haven’t won a match for some time,
it doesn’t matter.
“I think it all goes down to how you apply yourselves on the day, and I hope
that if we do apply ourselves well, we stand a very good chance, because, as a team,
we have shown that we have the quality in the last couple of games,” said Chitembwe.
“The expectations are the same. We always expect teams to be difficult to
play against, especially away from home.
“I think Chicken Inn have been one of the top teams in recent years, hence we
are expecting a very tough game against them,” he said.
He credits the team’s current performance to adequate preparations and
planning.
“I think the way we have started the season is very important, as far as where we
want to go is concerned,” he said.
Chicken Inn, who are last year’s runners-up, have had an indifferent start to
the season.
They have managed four draws and a win in five matches.
Their coach, Prince Matore, wants them to play with more consistency.
“What is important is for us to give our best and start winning more games,” said
Matore.
He, however, believes that inasmuch as they want to start winning games, it
will not be easy when they host in-form CAPS United.
“They are on top of the table and they will definitely come strong on us, so we will
have to work hard to get what we want,” he said.
