A HEAD of their next week’s African Nations Championships campaign at, in Cape Town, South Africa, the Zimbabwe senior national netball team is yet to establish camp.

The championships, which are going to run from 16 to 23 October, are Gem’s first major competition since the World Cup held in Liverpool, England where they finished on an impressive eight position making whole world sit up and take notice.

The games will feature the hosts South Africa, Uganda, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi and Zambia.

“We have not established camp and I don’t even know when we will finally do that. I guess it’s all because of the prevailing economic hardships that the country is going through. As such, I cannot comment further,” Gems’ coach Lloyd Makunde said.

Despite the challenge the team’s vice-captain Felistus Kwangwa was optimistic that they are going to have another good run,” said the 1,73 metres tall defender.

Gems are not new to shambolic preparations before plunging into a battle. A few months ago, they were completely forgotten even after qualifying for the World Cup — the pinnacle of any sport on the planet.

The team’s finances only got intact a few days before departure for Liverpool after begging through a video that circulated on social media.
