TWO world-acclaimed handball instructors from Germany are expected into the country this afternoon to conduct an international coaching course which begins tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth School in Harare.

The two instructors — Felex Henker and Sina Alex — were both seconded by their club HC Elbflorenz with the blessings of the International Handball Federation.

The German club has entered into a partnership with Harare Handball League side Big Elephants where the former has promised to develop the sport in the country, starting with the impending week-long coaching course where over 60 prospective coaches have registered.

The partnership will also see talented players from Zimbabwe playing for the German league heavyweights in the future.

Local handball’s national development officer, Daniel Mtandwa, confirmed the development and predicted good times for the sport in Zimbabwe.

“We are running an international Handball Coaching Course and two German instructors will be directing the course.

“We are expecting the two to jet in tomorrow (today) ahead of the scheduled start of the course. We hope that this is the beginning of something good to come handball’s way in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Meanwhile, the national Under-20 handball teams to represent Zimbabwe in the October Region 5 games to be held in South Africa have upped their preparations.

The provisional female and male teams for the games have already been announced with Harare and Masvingo clubs contributing more players.

Harare Metropolitan and Masvingo are the only provinces with running handball leagues.
