Jazz music lovers had an exceptional treat on Saturday night when internationally acclaimed German musician SiminTander and her band Jazz Quartet staged a top class performance at Theatre in the Park in Harare Gardens.
The well subscribed show as their first performance in Zimbabwe and the group did not disappoint as they thrilled revelers with their music playlist.
Their music features a range of styles including a strong Middle East influence stemming in part from Simin’s heritage.
The highly respected quartet visited Harare as part of the “Twelve-Music Every Month” and performed various songs from their two albums “Wagma” and “Where Water Travels Home”.
The quartet is well known on jazz scene in Germany and the Netherlands and has performed in China, Hong Kong, Italy, South Korea and Czech Republic.
In an interview with the founder and director of the Twelve Concerts, ErenLevendoglu said they were happy that the event was a success.
“We are excited that the show lived up to billing, fans really enjoyed every moment and the turnout was amazing. We have started the year on a high note and it really shows how people in this country appreciate jazz music,” she said.
Simin and her band successfully hosted a two day workshop that was held at Mavambo Trust in Mabvuku and St John’s High School.
“Simin and her band are happy to be in this beautiful country and given the chance they wish to have another performance in Zimbabwe.
“On Friday a total of 18 young jazz students from schools across Harare took part at the workshop. Simin and the artists were very impressed not only at the level of talent in the young artists but also at their enthusiasm.
“The workshop included a talking session on a wide range of subjects including composition techniques, performance related issues and issues related to being a professional musician. They were also taught on vocals and they performed with the young instrumentalists,” said Levendoglu.
