GMWU strongly condemned the attack and joined the numerous voices calling for justice to prevail over this incidence.
“It is regrettable to witness such atrocities when ordinary working class citizens deem it right to press home their demand for pay rise,” the general secretary of GMWU, Prince William Ankrah, told CAJ News in Accra.
“GWMU perceives this incomprehensible brutal act as an attempt by capital to quell and neutralise the potency of trade union activities.
“We also condemn that in no uncertain terms. GWMU expresses its heartfelt sympathies towards the victims and the families of this unfortunate tragedy.
“We also share in the agony of our comrades in National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), South Africa. We further pledge our support to the NUM in the pursuit of improved remuneration and other benefits for the Marikana Platinum miners,” said Ankrah.
The state pledged to assist bury the miners yesterday but this has done little to soothe the hearts of the aggrieved families. — CAJ News.
