TALENTED young Bulawayo football player Tafadzwa Madamombe from Trap Star Academy is appealing for sponsorship for part of his tuition fees and air ticket for him to secure a scholarship at Wiley College in the USA.
He has a week to raise the money and air ticket or risk losing the opportunity. The Texas college has offered Madamombe a 75 percent four-year football scholarship in which, he will be studying for a degree in business management as part of the package. Madamombe said that the university has offered to cater for $15,000 meaning that he has to pay the remaining 25 percent which is $5,000 excluding the plane ticket.
The city born and raised athlete is set to travel to the US this week to enable him to start school on Tuesday next week. Without a commitment to his ticket and 25 percent, all this could go to waste if he does not get help in the next few days.
“I will also be studying for a business degree with the university as part of the scholarship package,” said Madamombe.
Madamombe has previously been offered scholarships by Concept 4 Soccer and FootballCV.com in the United Kingdom, which he failed to go for as he was denied a visa. Madamombe has been training at Bantu Rovers. He started playing football while in Grade One.
“I started playing soccer in Grade One, up until secondary school where I started being recognised and eventually was called for trials in the United Kingdom by Concept 4 Soccer and FootballCV.com of which I failed to travel because I was denied a visa,” said Madamombe.
The 22-year-old former Christian Brothers College pupil is confident that if he gets an opportunity to travel abroad he would fulfil his childhood dream of playing for the senior national team.
“It has been a dream of mine to play football abroad and hopefully be called up to come and represent my country in the senior national team.
“I am appealing to any well wishers and corporate organisations to assist me in achieving my dream by sponsoring me with the remaining 25 percent tuition fees money and an air ticket,” said Madamombe.
Cleopas Madamombe, Tafadzwa’s father believes his son has what it takes to make a big impression.
