Businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure is now a free man after he was acquitted of fraud charges involving a botched mining equipment supply deal worth R1 581 890.

Kadungure was accused of defrauding Zanu-PF legislator Cde Dexter Nduna and a Kadoma miner Enos Gatawa of R1 581 890 in a mining equipment supply deal

He appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Morgen Nemadire, who said there was no evidence linking Kadungure to the crime.

“The evidence that was presented before the court does not link the accused to the crime in any way, there is no rational connection between the accused and the victims,” said Mr Nemadire.

“The two victims testified that they never spoke to the accused before the transactions took place, therefore, he did not misrepresent.”

Mr Nemadire said it was possible that Kadungure opted for an out-of-court settlement with Gatawa as a way of protecting his image.

He said that when Kadungure saw the money in his account, he thought it was his and used it to buy gas, but when he realised that it was Gatawa’s, he gave it back.

“The probability of the accused being linked to the case is zero. I, therefore, found him not guilty and he has been acquitted of all charges,” said Mr Nemadire.

Kadungure is facing another charge of alleged tax evasion amounting to $22 million.
