A CITY woman took her ex-boyfriend to the maintenance court demanding $45 000 for the upkeep of their three-month-old baby.

Sandra Chakoroma accused George Nyanguwo of neglecting the welfare of his baby.

“He has not been providing any money or food.

“I don’t work and how does he expect me to cater for our child’s needs?

“I need money for the child’s needs as well as my upkeep,” Sandra said.

George said he could not afford her demands and instead offered to pay $15 000 per month.

“Your Worship, I can’t pay that sort of amount because I don’t earn much and I have another family to take care of.

“My sister passed away and I was given the responsibility to take care of her kids, so she must consider that as well,” he said.

Presiding magistrate, Rutendo Taruvinga, ordered George to pay $25 000 per month.

He was advised to prioritise his child before anything else.
