HARARE Girls High School’s handball team are set to make their second straight appearance at the Interamnia World Cup in Italy next month.
The Interamnia World Cup is one of the biggest international handball tournaments and it is held annually in the Italian city of Teramo.
This year’s event has been slated to run from July 5 to 11 and it comes hot on the heels of another big international youth handball tournament, the Partille Cup, which is also held annually in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The 2015 Partille Cup is scheduled to run from June 29 to July 4 in Gothenburg and it will soon be followed by the staging of the Interamnia World Cup in Teramo.
Harare’s Girls High School have already indicated that they are likely to send teams to both events in Gothenburg and Teramo.
And the director and founder of the Interamnia World Cup, Pier Luigi Montauti, yesterday told The Herald from his base in Italy that the Zimbabwean school is the only side from this part of the world that has entered for this year’s event.
“The deadline for entering our tournament was April 15 and we have one team which has entered from Zimbabwe — Girls High School of Harare.
“They entered this tournament through (the school’s headmistress) Beauty Mtsambiwa.
“They took part in this tournament for the first time in July last year and we are looking forward to have them again at our tournament for the second year running this year. . . We hope to have them for our opening parade in 26 days time on July 5,” Montauti said.
