tournament that roars into life in Bulawayo at Gifford High School this weekend.
Giwa was oozing with confidence when he spoke about his team’s preparations.
He revealed that their preparations have sailed smoothly and last week they played friendly matches.
The women’s Under-20 national team mentor said he retained the bulk of players who took part in the tournament last year.
He felt their biggest letdown, when they lost last year, was the inexperience of their players at such a level.
Giwa believes his players have gained experience by training with teams from the women’s national league.
Last year Mufakose 1 High lost in the final to the eventual winners Herman Gmeiner.
Mufakose 1 High will be banking on midfielder Amanda Machaka, central striker Aleta Manakira, rightback Primrose Utete, Wadzanai Tafamba, Nomatter Shumba and Tapiwa Mugede.
They will play Herman Gmeiner in their group and Giwa said he now knows the opposition well.
Giwa believes Herman Gmeiner have a good defence and a mobile midfield.
One team Giwa would rather avoid before the final is Bulawayo’ Sikhulile Secondary, who are under the guidance of Shadreck Mlauzi, his assistant at the women national Under-20 team.
The tournament began last year and the finals were held at Mabelreign Girls High but had no prize money.
Herman Gmeiner from Mashonaland Central won the inaugural trophy.
The national finals are slated for Gifford High School and will run from September 24-25. The winners are set to pocket US$1 500, losing finalists US$1 200, the third-placed team collecting US$1 000 and the fourth-
placed team getting US$500.
The rest of the teams will pocket US$300.
Four schools that took part last year at Mabelreign Girls High are back again at Gifford High.
Defending champions Herman Gmeiner, Mufakose 1 High, Bulawayo provincial winners Sikhulile High and Rukweza Secondary from Manicaland were all in action last year.
