LEAGUE champions Dynamos are hoping to get their preparations for the 2015 season underway on Monday, with newly-appointed coach David Mandigora aiming to have played at least eight pre-season friendlies before the Castle Lager Premiership roars into life in March.
The seasoned coach is taking over from Callisto Pasuwa who had led the Glamour Boys to four league titles in as many seasons and as he braces for the fresh challenge, Mandigora is not underestimating the task at hand.
Mandigora, who is making a return to take charge of the dressing room after having left the job in April 2009, is eager to make an impression.
“We do not have many commitments unlike if we had been playing in the Champions League. So, we will have enough time to prepare for the domestic games.
“Usually, I am looking at about eight to 10 friendly games, depending on when the season is going to start. But I think we are going to achieve that.
“It’s normal to try and get players at the beginning of each season for any team because we are looking at strengthening.
“I can be able to say much on the potential of the squad after we have completed all our acquisitions.
“Dynamos have won the league for the past four years and we should try to maintain a good squad ahead of the defence of our title,” said Mandigora.
DeMbare are still chasing Devon Chafa, Simba Sithole, Rodreck Mutuma and Tafadzwa Rusike.
“It’s unfortunate that we are not playing in the Champions League because of our financial position, but in future want to play again.
“So, we are preparing for the future and if we manage to get into the Champions League, we want to make sure that we have a squad that is strong and that is the reason we are signing some of these young players.
“The pressure is there (to win trophies) and there is nothing I can do about that. That’s the nature of the job, but I feel I can handle the pressure.
“When I was unveiled, I emphasised that team work will help. This is from the board, the executive, the technical department, the players and the supporters. So, everyone needs to get on board and we work as a team.
“Just like any other coach, my ambition is to succeed. As a coach, I need results and every game that I play I would like to win.
“But our league has become very competitive and I have to respect all the other coaches. So, I have to prove myself first in the local league before trying on the Champions League,” said Mandigora. — Sportszone.
