THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education have marked the Global Action Week for Education by calling on stakeholders to ensure that education is well funded.

This year’s celebrations were held at Bangari Secondary School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe District under the theme, ‘Investing In A Just World: Decolonising Education Financing Now’.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Evelyn Ndlovu, called for a just world in which people worked together to transform the education landscape.

In a speech read on her behalf by the director of Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education in the Ministry, Olicah Kakaira, she called for more funding, particularly in rural areas.

“We intend to finance our own educational requirements and meet all the required needs of quality provision as well as access by everyone.

“Together we are able to achieve and commit to a high-quality education that can make us build our country without having to compromise our cultural capital value.”

She said NGOs could enhance Government efforts to provide education.

Director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry, Taungana Ndoro, added that they were working to make Uzumba schools accessible by building a further 20 schools.

“We are building schools to shorten the distances which our students are travelling to access education.

“We want to reduce the distance to less than 5km, but our dream is to make it closer than that to promote quality education for all,” said Ndoro.

Global Action Week for Education is commemorated annually.

It provides national and regional organisations an opportunity to make targeted efforts to achieve progress on the ground with the support of education ministries.
