adminTHE church should help promote peace and tolerance as Zimbabweans head for elections on July 30, an official has said.
Speaking during a Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) peace march last week, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) chair, Retired Justice Sello Nare said the church is a pillar in peace building.
He said, “If the church turns a blind eye on the nation, then we are doomed. Remember Nkwame Nkrumah, Hebert Chitepo and Joshua Nkomo who made sacrifices for peace; we should do the same to promote peace.
“Peace making is the act of disarming the evil without destroying the evil doer.
“We can live together in peace regardless of religious affiliation because we are all ambassadors of peace.
“The church needs to pray and participate in promoting peace and ask for wisdom to vote for good leadership, especially in the run up to elections. Christians should play a role in economic development.
ZCC general secretary, Revered Kenneth Mtata said, “Unity means diverse views and perceptions. We need to be united to build our nation; this is what we mean by being an ecumenical movement.
