GMB dispels starvation fears

manager Mr Albert Mandizha allayed fears that Zimbabwe was facing a grain shortage.  “We have six weeks cover of grain and plans to import will be out in two weeks’ time,” he said. He said the parastatal had already begun stocktaking and would soon disclose the precise amount of grain that was in the country’s storage barns.

“At the moment we are carrying out stocktaking before we release the exact figures next week,” he said.
GMB has in recent years been under fire for failing to carry out its statutory mandate of ensuring food security in the country.

Meanwhile, the company has disclosed that it would retrench an additional 400 workers as part of its staff rationalisation process. The programme is expected to reduce staff costs and ensure that GMB retains skilled workers through competitive salaries.
