A SICK goat molester from Cliffton Farm in Figtree has been thrown behind bars after terrorising a village with his vile acts that left two goats dead.
Brighton Mkandla (33) was convicted of three counts of bestiality after a string of incidents that shocked the entire community.
Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware came down hard on Mkandla, saying his actions showed “a shocking disregard for animal welfare.”
“The accused exhibited a high degree of cruelty to animals,” ruled magistrate Nembaware. “A fine or community service will not deter him. Only imprisonment will send a message to would-be offenders.”
Mkandla was slapped with a six-month sentence, with two months suspended for five years on condition of good behavior. He will serve an effective four months behind bars.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court how Mkandla repeatedly sneaked into villagers’ goat pens under the cover of darkness to rape the animals.
On 15 August around 10PM, Elmon Ndlovu (65) was startled by the sound of his goat bleating. Armed with a torch, he rushed to the pen and was horrified to find Mkandla half-naked, trousers around his knees, sexually assaulting the animal.
When confronted, Mkandla bolted into the bush. The next morning, Ndlovu and fellow villager Trynos Nyathi tracked footprints leading straight to Mkandla’s HOME.
On 31 August, 85-year-old Cecilia Sibanda heard strange noises coming from her pen late at night. When she checked, she found Mkandla in the act again.
The following morning, she discovered her black goat dead, with bruises and semen on its back.
As villagers traced footprints from her homestead, they met Mayibongwe Ndlovu (28) who, after checking his own pen, found another dead goat showing signs of strangulation and assault.
The furious villagers tracked the prints to Mkandla’s home and confronted him. He confessed on the spot before being handed over to police.
The community says they are relieved the “goat pervert” is finally locked up, with one villager muttering: “Our goats can finally sleep in peace.”
