FORTY pupils at Gokomere Primary school in Masvingo scored four units each in the 2015 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) Grade Seven examinations. It is yet to be ascertained if the school set a national record as other provinces are still analysing the results that were released last week. The Roman Catholic-run school whose good record in education dates back prior to independence scored a 97,2 percent pass rate.
Only five pupils out of 146 failed the examinations.
Victoria Junior in Masvingo urban, produced 24 pupils with four units.
Masvingo provincial deputy education director Andrew Chikwange confirmed the results yesterday.
“It’s true that the two schools excelled in the 2015 Zimsec Grade Seven examinations. We’re still collating results from other districts. By end of next week we’ll have all the results with us,” said Chikwange.
Reliable sources told The Chronicle a number of schools in the province produced 100 percent pass rates with some having an average of five students with four units.
One of the traditional top schools in the province, Hellen Mcghie Primary School has 14 pupils with four units and has a pass rate of 97,87 percent. Shakashe Primary, which was the best in Masvingo in 2013, has nine pupils with four units each.
Dikwindi Primary has six pupils with distinctions in all four subjects.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police Primary School also managed to score a 100 percent pass rate with a few students scoring four units.
Chiredzi Government Primary produced six pupils with four units and the school also has a 100 percent pass rate. Tshovani, also in Chiredzi recorded a 91 percent pass rate with ten pupils each scoring four units each.
Lowveld Adventist posted a 100 percent pass rate. Five pupils each got four units.
Shingai Primary School produced five pupils with four units and its pass rate stands at 86,7 percent. The school had 226 candidates who sat for the examinations.
