A 24-year-old Gokwe man died after he was overpowered and stabbed with his own okapi knife during a fight with a friend he had accused of failing to deliver a parcel to his wife
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday at around 9 pm at Mutemarongo Tuck shop in Mutemarongo Village under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South.
“The suspect Tinashe Katsikadova (17) and the now deceased Alfred Kamambo (24), both of Mutemarongo Village, used to do gold panning in Battlefields, Kadoma,” he said.
“Sometime back, Kamambo gave the suspect a cellphone and some money to give to his wife. The suspect allegedly did not deliver.”
Inspector Mahoko said on the fateful day, Kamambo confronted Katsikadova at Mutemarongo Tuckshop, asking him why he did not deliver the parcel to his wife.
He said Katsikadova’s response did not go well with Kamambo, leading to a fight.
“The suspect ran away and later came back armed with a catapult,” Inspector Mahoko said.
“The fight resumed and Kamambo produced an okapi knife intending to stab Katsikadova who overpowered and disarmed him. Katsikadova stabbed him on the chest, shoulder and left ribs. Kamambo fell down and died on the spot.”
He said the police attended the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Investigations are in progress.
