Gokwe man gets 17 years for fatal stabbing at funeral

Parksyard Muringi (21) of Zhangazha Village, Gokwe North, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Tapiwa Ziyambe (37).

The incident occurred on May 15, 2022, at a funeral in Mahachi Village, Gokwe North.

According to court proceedings, the attack followed a confrontation between the brothers of Muringi and Ziyambe.

During the altercation, Muringi stabbed Ziyambe in the back, resulting in his death. Muringi fled the scene but was later apprehended and charged with murder.

The High Court, sitting in Gweru, convicted Muringi and handed down the 17-year prison sentence. The case highlights the tragic consequences of conflicts escalating into violence, particularly in community settings.

Parksyard Muringi was sentenced on February 5, 2025, by the Midlands Special High Court Circuit.
