GOKWE South Rural District Council has bought 33 motor bikes for councillors to ensure effective service delivery.

The motor bikes which were handed over to councillors at a colourful ceremony last week cost council US$43 560.
Gokwe South RDC chief executive officer, Mrs Dorothy Makoni said the motorbikes were meant to improve service delivery as councillors are now able to effectively cover their areas of jurisdiction.

“We bought the bikes after Government directed RDCs to provide transport to councillors to enable them to serve the people,” she said.

Ms Makoni said some councillors were failing to attend meetings due to the long distances to the council offices.

The council recently bought road making equipment using devolution funds and this will accelerate the rehabilitation of roads in the district.
