Golden Pilsener Zim Open tee-off

Kamalizeni, who had decent outings in the last local events, is hopeful he will do well in the event and carry the form into the weekend.
The Brooke-based professional faces several other golf players who will fight for the eight slots reserved.

“I think the practice round will give us some good warm-up and I am looking forward to a good outing and carry the form into the event,” said Kamalizeni. The event is important to every player and it is good to take part in the most prestigious tournament on the local scene.

“It will be tough competition but I will try and focus on the game. We will have a huge field but I look forward to doing something better.”
The professional golfer last year sqeezed through the pre-qualifiers after a play-off but is not looking forward to repeating that feat.

Kamalizeni is also bitter about the way the organisers handled his issue as he was not feeling well for the better part of last season and he expected to be given a reserved slot on medical grounds .

“Going to the play-offs is not something I was looking forward to as it will give me pressure,” said Kamalizeni. I would love to get a good score and make the cut since I was not expecting to got through all this hussle.

“I think some of those reserved places are for scenerios like the one I went through. Besides the top 15, I thought there were places for people who would have gone through my situation but to my surprise I was ommited. “I had decent rounds in the last two encounters after my return but that was given a blind eye.”
The practice round begins this morning and eight players will join several others to make the 156-member field to play at Royal Harare.
